Catherine Hauser
Artist & Maker

I work in clay and cloth, materials that carry the mark of the hand and a history much older than my own.

My pottery is influenced by two places in particular: France, where studying early pottery deepened my love of simple, ancient forms, and Lake Superior, whose rugged shoreline and shifting colors continue to find their way into my work.

My work in cloth began with the sewing I learned beside my grandmother. Today, I use antique and timeworn textiles to create my Old World Santas, allowing the history of those materials to become part of something new.

Whether formed from clay or stitched from cloth, I want the things I make to be touched, used and kept.

I believe original art belongs in everyday life, and everyone should be able to take a little of it home.
